Ivory Tailored Blazer Suit

She did not want a dress. She wanted to walk into the registry the way she walked into work, only softer. So we built her a suit, not a costume of one.

The blazer is ivory wool blend with a faint silk shimmer that only shows in the registrar's flash photography. It is lightly nipped at the waist, single button, with hand bound buttonholes you can only see if you are close enough to comment on them. The lapel is narrow, the shoulder pad minimal, the lining a soft cream silk so the sleeve falls clean without help. The trousers are tailored straight to the floor with a clean break at the shoe, a deep hem that lets her grow into them for a decade.

The whole suit was built around her ribs, not her hips, which is what tailoring on a real woman actually means. Her mother cried, not at the registry, at the fitting. She said her daughter looked like she had decided who she was years ago. That is the suit working.
