Burgundy Blazer Set
for Stylish Corporate Professional
A Head of Legal at one of the banks needed something for the year end strategy session that did not photograph like every other blazer in the room. The board meeting starts at nine. She walks in last, after the partners. The room is always wallpapered in navy and dark grey.
So I built this one in burgundy, not because burgundy is interesting in isolation, but because most rooms in Lagos are dressed in navy, and burgundy is the easiest colour for a room to remember her in. The blazer is single button, lightly fitted through the waist, with a notched lapel narrow enough to read as modern and wide enough to read as serious. The trousers are wide and straight, the colour matched within a half shade, the seam pressed sharp so the line travels uninterrupted from shoulder to shoe. The silhouette is unapologetic.
By the third presentation that week, the colour was the only thing two of the partners independently remembered when they were asked to summarise the meeting. The agenda did not move. The room did. She has reordered the same cut twice, in forest green and in a deep teal she calls Tuesday.
