Navy Zip Front Vest and Denim

The boss lady version of this vest, on her day off. A client wears the office version with crepe trousers Monday to Thursday, and this same vest with a high waisted dark wash denim on Saturday. The transformation is in the trouser, not the vest, which is the cheapest kind of wardrobe building there is and the kind more women should do.

The zip front gives her one button push when she is rushing for school pick up or for the airport. The peplum holds her waist without thinking about it. The vest is cut close enough to read as soft tailoring and loose enough to layer a thin merino under it when she is travelling. The denim does the rest of the outfit's job: it ages her down without trying, which is the dressing problem of the woman who looks like she runs a company on weekdays and would like to look like a person on Saturdays.

She told me the denim makes her feel twenty four. The vest makes her feel like the woman who runs the company. The fact that both are true at the same time is the entire point.
